In the following lines I will seek to explain my Coaching Model and give meaning to the concept of RISE – Response In Self Enlightenment.
As a preliminary note, I will say that coaching is first and foremost a relationship – a free and consciously established relationship between coach and client. Inspired by Eric Berne’s vision, I believe that this relationship only fully blossoms when it is established between two people in their most mature state: the Adult State.
This relationship is based on a model and this model is based on presuppositions. The first of these are those defined by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) – in particular, the Code of Ethics – which are both non-negotiable and the guarantee that the coaching service I make available to my clients is built on solid, reliable, scrutinisable and proven foundations.
While it may seem that this is a more general observation, I would say that, on the contrary, this is the first pillar of my model: the pillar of legitimacy, i.e. my model can only have its own nuances if they are built within a proven and legitimate system.
And what are these nuances?
They are closely linked to my values, to the values that build me as a coach, or rather, to the values that build me as a person – because the coach lives inside the person.
Which values?
- Freedom – Individual and absolute. A relationship between adults is necessarily free. Only with freedom, and in freedom, can you reach another level of consciousness that is true and fruitful.
- Respect – For myself, for the other, for the process.
- Humility – the humility of not knowing, of not judging.
Once these presuppositions have been met, which serve as a compass for coach and client alike, the process will be whatever it has to be, the desired state will be a beacon – a mirage or a destination, we’ll see, in the certainty that all moments of sharing between coach and client will be part of a kind-hearted journey.
The dynamics of the model
This path, in my model, is made, that is, carried out, in a dialectical way – a conversation with a method, which aims to bring things to light, which aims to raise awareness, and which therefore aims at an elevation, an ‘elinghtenment’, in which my main ally is my ability to ask – question, answer (or rather, reflection), followed by a question and another reflection? a ‘maieutic dance’ which, in the end, wants something to be born, but which starts from the certainty that whatever is born is within the client and is their absolute responsibility.
The image I’ve chosen to illustrate my model – concentric circles that expand – aims to embody this dance: a continuous, growing movement of ‘increasing’ the client’s knowledge of themselves, their path, their options, their choices.
My commitment
The Code of Conduct that underpins my model is as follows:
- That Ethics be my alpha and my omega.
- That every one of my coaching sessions be a space of trust and safety for my clients.
- That I always listen, that I am always fully present for my client, asking the right questions and sharing what may serve them in elevating their self-awareness and thus finding their own paths to growth.
With this model, based on the presuppositions described and the aforementioned code, I hope that I will always be able to fulfil the responsibilities that, as a coach, I assume towards My Client.
